You Want To Do What?

Does this 5th wheel make my butt look big?

Life for me as a kept woman has been pretty great thanks to the efforts of my hard working husband Dave.  I have oodles of time for myself which gets displaced with teaching yoga, house projects, Catalina demands (our dog), creative & artistic endeavors, and being active in our subdivision. When major incidents happen to people, they remember them like yesterday; the same applies to the Friday before New Year's Eve of this year. Dave's boss approached him with an opportunity that he just could not refuse. In a nutshell, he was offered to take a year off (call it a sabbatical). What?!?!  You might ask... Well a quick summary of what led to this opportunity was that his work has a long term contract with a customer that they have dealing with for about 4 years now, which has been running pretty smoothly of late. You could say that Dave's work has not been as cerebral for him for a while, so thankfully his boss recognized this and presented the sabbatical option.  That night Dave came home with a huge smile & twinkle in his eye, a new spark was lit!  The first ideas that came from us were travel & adventure, "Let's do it now while we still have the body parts that still work!".... Then came Dave's suggestion, "Let's get an rv and travel around the US".  The closest to rv'ing for us has been 3 nights in a 4 person tent... It sounded like a fun idea, so we started looking at the options and this is what we decided on:

RV Checklist:
1 x 39' 5th wheel, Keystone Raptor Toy Hauler
1 x Chevy Silverado 3500 diesel, 4x4, dually, extended cab, long box
1 x air hitch (to tow trailer)
1 x queen mattress (Catalina also got a new dog bed too!)
2 x driving instruction & Class A driver license (exam & road test)

We are taking the plunge and hoping the rv thing will turn out to be an awesome adventure! Our first trip will be for 2-3 months, traveling to New Mexico, Arizona & Utah.  We hope Catalina likes her mobile home and that Dave & I can live in a 39' box for an extended period of time!

I'm new to the blog world and electric social media...but many have expressed interest in vicariously hearing of our travels (or have a morbid sense of humor on the 39' marital box living)!  The blog is a way that you can choose whether or not to hear about our travels rather than feel obligated so you don't hurt my feelings... Believe me, I won't unfriend you! I also won't be forcing a 1000 picture slideshow on you, (as much as I like to see them myself). I hope blogging more manageable chunks is a happy medium.  So sit back & enjoy over the course of the year of where, when & what, we're up to in our Raptor Toy Hauler.

Our first destination is 5 hrs West, Fredericksburg, TX, where we’ll take the dreaded road test and tour the area.
